Troy-Bilt's Community Garden Network

The lawn and garden season is in full swing and this year we are proud to announce our sponsorship of two major Canadian community garden networks. Rooted in a strong heritage of manufacturing rugged outdoor power equipment that won't let our customers down, Troy-Bilt is also dedicated to seeking ways in which we can help support Canadian networks with the common goal of developing sustainable food resources for everyone!

Grow Calgary

Grow Calgary

Grow Calgary is a 100% volunteer-run urban community farm dedicated to providing fresh, local, sustainable and healthy produce to compassionate food access organizations and vulnerable Albertans. Their urban agricultural community farm, the largest in Canada, is on an 11 acre parcel of public land located 1km west of Canada Olympic Park, site of the 1988 Winter Olympics.
They grow without any chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. Grow Calgary has an extensive compost operation, pollination station with 15 hives, extensive green housing, an Earthship Greenhouse, a Hydroponic System inside a retrofitted Sea Container, an elaborate irrigation and water capture system, as well as numerous other related projects involving mulching, seeding, early germination, harvesting, repurposing, upcycling and gleaning.
Grow Calgary volunteers donate 100% of locally grown fresh produce to over 20 social agencies and organizations, including the
Calgary Women's Emergency ShelterInn from the ColdThe Drop In CentreAlpha HouseThe Children's CottageSunnyside Food Access Program and many more. Their 9000+ volunteer's seed, harvest, maintain the farm, package and deliver all goods with pride and a strong commitment to Compassionate Agriculture. By producing and donating locally grown food, they are ensuring that fresh, nutritious meals are accessible to Albertans. Thousands of Grow Calgary volunteers believe that access to healthy, nutritious food is a right, not a privilege. Calgary's Fresh Food Bank contributes to over 100,000 meals a year with volunteer support and generous donations from the entire community. 50% of their recipients are children. All of their recipients are vulnerable.

Hamilton Victory Gardens

Hamilton Victory Gardens

Hamilton Victory Gardens mission is to increase access to healthy, nutritious and culturally-appropriate fresh produce for individuals/families in need and to promote community engagement and social inclusion as volunteer community members' work together to help alleviate food insecurity. This mission is being realized through a form of "urban agriculture" by constructing raised garden beds on unused urban land throughout the Greater Hamilton Area. Dedicated volunteers plant and maintain the garden sites and then harvest the fresh produce, which is all donated to local food banks and food programs for distribution to their clientele. In the past six years, 15 garden sites have been constructed throughout the city, and over 175,000 pounds of produce have been harvested and donated.

Hamilton Victory Gardens has an Educational Program which provides hundreds of elementary and secondary school students during the spring and fall, and participants of Day Camps during the summer, with the opportunity to take part in 'hands-on' experiences at local Victory Garden sites. The organization also partners with various local agencies to provide social/community inclusion opportunities for members of numerous diverse community groups (e.g. intellectually disabled, refugees/newcomers, international students), and offers "Give Back to your Community" experiences for teams of employees/members of local corporations and organizations.

Please join us on July 8th as we celebrate the fantastic work of the volunteers at Hamilton Victory Gardens. To learn more about the event visit our Troy-Bilt Canada Facebook page.
