Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Tiller I purchased a Pony tiller in 1989 to work a new ground for a garden. I've never been more delighted to have had this tiller. Guess what? I still have this tiller and I've not had to do anything to it except normal maintenance. I worked the ground for my garden this year and it did an excellent job. Of course, it looks old but runs good and starts on the first pull even if its been a while since I last used it. To everyone that reads this. Buy a Troy Bilt tiller and you will love it. Take care of it and it will be the last tiller you buy. Thanks, Troy Bilt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Started on the First Pull I have an acre and a half in a rural county and wanted to put in a garden on land that once had Dairy Cows. Once the grass was broken up the tiller had little trouble digging deeper and deeper on successive passes. I took about 2 hours to till a 50x50 plot to about 6 inches deep. The most impressive feature was that after adding the oil and checking the gear oil I put gas in the tank and the tiller started easily on the first pull! The tiller never faltered for the next two hours of heavy tilling. It is as good or better as the Troy built I bought back in 1985.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pony I had to give up my Econohorse because no engine could be found to fit it. I purchased a Pony thinking it would be very similar to what I had. I was WRONG! If all the tines are turned inward, they leave ditches instead of a smooth planting surface.IF two of outside tines are turned outward it throws dirt several feet because the shield is not wide enough. Wheels are set out further than tines, so you cannot get close to the plants unless you run over them and it leaves tire prints in the worked ground. It has onlyone speed which is too fast for careful work and no way to change belts to adjust speed. Not heavy enough to allow one handed operation as the Econo horse was.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Durability issues We purchased our new Pony 2 weeks ago and used it to turn (never plowed) 625 sq. feet. Lost a bolt during this till. A few days later, tilled 160 square feet and the handle bar broke at a weld. Our retailer welded it an ordered a replacement so we went back to work and within 1/2 hour a bolt broke that holds the tines on. Our tiller has 3.5 hours on in and we are on our 3rd repair. I was hoping this would be a quality product that I could use for many years to come (like my parents Troy-bilt) but now I'm afraid it won't make it through its first season. We have used other tillers over the years the frames were always good long after the engines wore out. This tiller needs stronger frame construction & components.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does an excellent job Bought my first Troy-Bilt Pony 8 years ago at an estate sale and I would guess that it was already 10-12 years old. It provided reliable tilling of two reasonably good size vegetable gardens plus preparing for reseeding sections of lawn. The engine finally gave up and I purchased a brand new Pony this spring. Power for tilling in clay-based soil is excellent and maneuverability is very good as is tilling depth. The new Pony is more powerful which enables me to reach max tilling depth in two passes when first tilled in the spring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pony Tiller This is a excellent machine it is pretty big so will need some arm strength to handle this machine very quiet very powerful. Does a great job tilling and cultivating the soil. also excellent at turning over your old garden. I have a old Horse and does a excellent job as well you just need a lot of space for this large of a tiller. My pony came with the Briggs and Stratton engine and in the year I have owned it. It has always started on the first pull. excellent machine excellent engine no issues so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Equipment I have only had this tiller for about two months and it has performed as Troy-Built always does for me. The setup is easy. As soon as I gassed it up and put the oil in, it cranked on the 2nd pull. Since then, it cranks every time on the 2nd pull. I have been doing a lot of yard work (creating new garden/flower beds, etc.) and this tiller has been perfect in doing what it should do. Tough and durable machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No complaints.... I've had my Pony since 2000 and have used it in my now 500 sq ft garden since. I bought and installed the accessory engine guard as a proactive measure and if yours doesn't have one,I'd recommend you install one too-it can save a lot of money down the road in potential repairs plus makes transport easier in a truck bed. Review the manual from cover-to-cover on its proper use for the best results...don't try to till too deeply on those early passes thru the soil. For mantenance, regular oil checks and changes;tire pressure adjustments;lubrication of moving parts and lastly,double-checking the tightness of fasteners should be done periodically. In the fall,I clean it,run it out of fuel, service it then store it-and it'll be ready for spring with just gassing it up and starting it being necessary then.YOU HAVE TO KEEP UP ON THE MAINTENANCE and it'll stay like new.
