How to Change the Deck Belt on a Troy-Bilt Riding Mower

This is how you remove and change the deck belt on your Troy-Bilt riding lawn mower. Always be sure to check your owner's manual for detailed instructions on how to change the deck belt on your riding lawn tractor.

Instructions

Step 1:

Turn the mower off and make sure the engine is cool. Remove the ignition key. Disconnect the spark plug ignition wire. Engage the parking break. Be sure the PTO lever is disengaged.

Step 2:

Put the deck height lever at its lowest position.

Step 3:

Remove belt keepers from around the engine pulley.

Step 4:

Remove belt from engine pulley.

Step 5:

Remove quick link from the front of the mower deck.

Step 6:

Remove the left and right hanger brackets.

Step 7:

Remove the PTO cable by removing the bow tie clip.

Step 8:

Remove the spring from the deck idler pulley bracket.

Step 9:

Put deck height lever at its highest position.

Step 10:

Turn the front wheels to the left, then slide the cutting deck out from the right side of the mower.

Step 11:

Remove the outer deck covers.

Step 12:

Loosen the two idler pulleys.

Step 13:

Pivot out the idler arm bracket and release the belt.

Step 14:

Remove the belt.

Step 15:

Route the new deck belt.

Step 16:

Reassemble by following the previous directions in reverse order.

Step 17:

Tighten the two idler pulleys.

Step 18:

Attach the outer deck belt covers.

Step 19:

Slide the deck back under the mower.

Step 20:

Attach the spring into the deck idler pulley bracket.

Step 21:

Using the bow tie clip, secure the PTO cable.

Step 22:

Insert the left and right hanger brackets.

Step 23:

Attach the spring into the deck idler pulley bracket.

Step 24:

Route belt on the engine pulley and attach the belt keeper.

Step 25:

Reconnect the spark plug ignition wire.
