Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4yrs in I have owned this unit for 4 yrs so I have some experience using it in a yard that has plenty of leaves. I bought this because it would literally take me and entire weekend to blow leaves to clear my yard and that didn't include cleaning the shrubs. This has been a Godsend but with a couple of nagging issues. First off when I got it it started on the first pull. It always starts on the first pull but that first pull will almost take your arm off. My wife could never start the thing. She just isn't strong enough. I'm barely able to pull it to get it started. The hose feature is nice but it will clog and it will break off eventually. I have reattached it, tried to reinforce with different tapes but it will keep breaking. It get's shorter after each too. I try not to use it now but in the bushes you have to. It's heavy. I don't know how anyone could use the push models with any sort of grade. This would be impossible to push up my hills or event through tall grass. Self propelled is a must. All that said this machine sucks up leaves, debris and leaves my lawn looking well vacuumed. It does a far better job than the bag attachment on the mower. And if you want to fly the self propelled adjustment can be set so high that you almost have to jog behinds t keep up yet it still sucks up the leaves. I wouldn't mind a side discharge option because sometimes the amount of leaves etc isn't that great and I'd like to simply mulch them and leave on the lawn and not have to stop and empty the bag. Probably some OSHA deal because I imagine the discharge would fly out at supersonic speeds. Good product, some flaws but not enough to not earn a 4 star from me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from useful when it works Good Vac, power is adequate. However iv'e had two hoses break in a year and one bag none of which seems to be covered by extended warranty. I also had the engine seize the first year and i struggled to find a repair center for service because as one guy put it "its a chore to get paid by the company". overall if its running it makes clean up a lot better and faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great chipper shredder vac gotta love it when it takes all the yard full of leaves and reduces them to mulch and makes it look professionally done. a year later you have great soil where once was piles of leaves. rich black soil looks so much better and the plants and shrubs loves it. you can almost hear them applaud!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product but no for the elderly This is a great product but I am 64 y/o and it is very hard to pull to get started. I would love it IF it were electric start but I am stuck with it. Tom Evans Lewes, Delaware

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Collection Bag Wears Out Fast I have owned this unit for a few years now. It starts, runs, and operates pretty good. My biggest issue is that the bags need replacing annually. And at $167.33 this can really add up over the years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leaf Vac/ Chipper Outstanding Equipment. Only drawback is the chipper lid won't stay latched as tite as i would like it to. I have tried to wear mine out but it won't die ( I'd like to get a new bigger one, but wife won't agree till this one is done for)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Does a great job getting up my leaves. Glad I bought the self-propelled model, pushing this around the yard would get old pretty quick as it is a bit heavier than a lawn mower. It does take some arm strength for the pull start (note to Troy-Bilt- some sort of electric start would be a major plus on this unit ), but the trick is to learn how to start it on one pull. I use full choke when cold (obviously) and 3/4 choke when hot- starts every time. And don’t forget to use Sta-Bil in your gas!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Convenient but little issues When it works, it is a quick way to get yard work done, especially cleaning up leaves. I have had the unit for 2.5 yrs and live in Florida which i would consider light duty compared to the North. I have run into a couple of issues making this difficult. The flapper that controls the suction to the hose won’t close so the front vac has reduced suction. The spring is to weak which robs suction when using the front vac. The front valve used to open and close the main flap between the front and rear vac has broken with very little use. When it is open to the rear the area the stronger front vac is blocked off, when closed the broader center van is functioning. The flapper lever on top is now broken and the flapper is stuck so the stronger front vac will not work. You should be aware of a couple things in general. 1. This is a sizable motor that has to be pull started. I’m 6’1, 250lbs and i have to give it a big pull to get it started. If you are smaller you can expect even more effort to get it to start. I am amazed that it will start with one good pull and that is a huge plus. Be sure to pull out the choke when starting. 2. Use high octane, ethanol free fuel. The high octane fuel starts burns easier making it easier to start and it runs well. 3. Remove fuel when storing. I could not start the unit one year until i replaced the fuel. I didn’t think it mattered that much until I experienced this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from skibi50 When I first got this machine the right drive wheel would not drive. I had to bring it in to an authorized dealer to get it fixed under warranty. It is not easy to start. There is no chock or primer bulb or speed control. After one year the cheap Chinese made spark plug went bad and I had to change it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use, great power. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a year ago. I have 3 huge silver maples, and every fall, millions of leaves. This chipper shredder has made fall cleanup very easy. My overall rating was 4 stars, but only because it's a push unit. Would have loved a self powered unit. Still, as a push unit, it would rate 5 stars for all that it does. I liked this unit so much, I purchased a 725EX self powered mower to use for trimming the yard, where the rider can't go. It's a double lot, and sizable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from pick up on 8-30-11 use it and found it to be ok pick up leaf droping from storm the hose can get stop up if not careful over all work great

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Makes Cleanup Easy [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great machine for heavy leaf pickup. Only used it twice when the impeller came loose and the drive belt slipped. A week in the local warranty shop and it has be great ever since. I was paying about $350 each year to have someone dispose of my leaves. The self propelled model is the best for heavy leaf drops. It will pay for itself in a couple of years since I don't have to pay to have the leaves removed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mulches Well, Hard to Start I have had this Chipper Shredder Vac for 2 years and it does an excellent job once I can get it started. The more it runs the harder it is to restart. Since you have to stop it each time you empty the bag, once it gets warm/hot, it takes a lot of pulls to get it started again. It seems to be all about setting the choke position just right to get it to start again. Very frustrating when you have a lot to do and you wear yourself out trying to start it again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Recommeded I do not recommend this machine. I previously owned a CSV260, a machine about twice the size of the CSV070 & would have bought another if it was available. But at 20 yrs old it was time for replacement. The CSV070 is very hard to start when hot. I'm in great shape with 40 years of serious biking, the kind you have to pedal. I'm thinking the spark plug 5K resister is increasing to perhaps 10K from the temp increase. I'm a EE so will have a look. Sure not good when the customer has to do the QA. And the gas tank is too small. Who makes this engine?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Restarting tough [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cool engine starts on the first pull. However, it is very hard to restart after shuting down to empty the collection bag or refueling. I waited 30 minutes today and it started on the 6th pull. The vac does what is supposed to do - suck up stuff.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Simplier Life [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this in October to make our lives easier doing leaves. Although we did have ptoblems with the larger leaves clogging underneath in the vacuum shoot all in all it was a huge help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handles leaves like a champ [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Powerful, effective, low effort leaf cleanups are yours with this tool. Vacuum with ground vac or with hose vac in tight spaces. Acts as a blower and a branch chipper, as well. Great machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great workhorse machine [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had it for some time and it runs smooth and dependably each time. Vacuum the lawn and walks of all the leaves and sticks. Large sticks are easily chipped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used it twice. It’s a little hard to start (I’m a woman and not as strong as most men!!). But I learned to keep the choke open and that helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded My Expectations! This is a very well designed and manufactured machine. At first I was disappointed in the drive system (it is either on or off; no gradual transistion), but after a little time using it I found it to be ok. In confined areas one can simply turn off the self-propel feature and push the machine (it is easy to push). It starts on the first pull when cold. It is a little harder to start when it is between hot and cold (deciding whether to use the choke or not requires some experience), but it is acceptable. It takes some muscle to pull the starter cord, but the engine will start without the starter cord being pulled fast. It picks up leaves and small twigs extremely well. I was amazed how fast I could do my entire yard. It chips branches fast. I really like the design of the bag; very well thought out with handles top and bottom. The finish of the machine is excellent. I enjoy having good looking machinery. This is my 4th Troy-Built product (2 snow throwers, edger, and this product). All of them start (Troy-Built engines are great) and perform extremely well. I found the sales and support staff to be extremely helpful and friendly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best purchases I ever made I have owned my Chipper Shredder for 12 years and I have never had any of the issues that were reported in other reviews. The bag and hose have never failed. Other than putting gas and oil in it I have not spent one dime on repairs or other maintenance. It starts on the first or second pull every time and is very efficient at cleaning up yard debris. You can throw away your rake. Now that I am older, I just wish I had bought the self propelled model.
