Rated 3 out of 5 by from Please check over! I purchased my Pony ES Tiller brand new on May 17, 2011. I picked it up and brought it home and started to till my garden. It ran about 1 minute and the drive belt came off. I took the cover off and reattached it and drive belt came off again and torn into shreads. I immediately loaded it and took back to the dealer. It was discovered that the tension pulley that held the drive belt in place was not in line with the drive belt. I was disappointed about this, but the dealer took care of the issue for me. This was a factory assembly error. Since this was corrected I now am happy with my tiller.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a big one... I owned an Econo horse, and a Horse over the years. I bought this Pony ES mainly because I now have a small garden and I liked the electric start now that i'm older. The tiller is ok, but checking the oil is a nightmare as is checking the gear oil. The reverse is terrible and it barely works. I have to break up the old garden plants and throw them away because this thing doesn't have enough power to till them under. I may have been spoiled with a Econo Horse and a horse.....this thing just doesn't meet up to my expectations.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too big Pony I just purchased a Pony ES to replace my old Pony that I used and loved for about 35 years ( the rod came thru the side of the engine) Sorry to say I like my old tiller much better. The new one is much bigger, much heavier, and much harder to maneuver in small places. It takes a lot to turn at the end of the row. I am almost 60 years old and am wondering if I will be able to handle this tiller in a few years. Sure wish my old Pony could have lasted a few more years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great general tiller OK, I am a city girl converted to a country girl who LOVES gardening- and got this model last season. I love the electric start and find it easy to control and adjust speed. We live in the Ozarks and deal with a LOT of rocks and it even handles well with that. We have a 7,000 square foot garden and generally only use to get soil ready and about every 8 weeks to weed walkways and aerate the soil- perfect size and power for that. Would recommend to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electric start 250cc rear tine tiller Was not too hard to handle after I figured out what I had to do differently compared to the larger rented tillers I used in the past. Location of Engage/Disengage lever is not handy. Some sort of extended handle that ends up somewhere in the driving handle area would be very helpful. Also, the informational sticker for the Engage/Disengage lever is backwards from operation. I haven't looked closely enough to figure out if the decal was installed upside down, or if it's just wrong. Easy enough to pull start that I didn't use the electric start. Comes with a nice, heavy-duty 120VAC 6 foot extension cord for starting. Shipping container arrived badly damaged, the straps were the only thing keeping the machine inside the box. Bottom wood supports were broken and the top of the box was not (or no longer) secured to the main box. Amazingly, the tiller was not damaged by it's rough transport.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lots of Problems Do Not Purchase this Tiller I purchased a Pony ES tiller in late May of this year. I have had nothing but trouble since the purchase. The tiller was just throwed together at the factory. Drive belts have come off and shredded twice. Returns back to the dealer. Also the tension pulley was not lined up with the drive pulley at the factory. Guide which holds the belt tension was assembled on the wrong side of the tiller. Flat tire today.Shoddy work from factory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little worker I'm 75yo so can't remember when I bought the tiller, at least 10-12 years ago (CRS). Started garden on unbroken sod..Beginners..set your depth just deep enough to scratch the surface then lower 2 notches at a time, that way the tiller won't run away from you and soon enough you'll be down to at least 8" depth. Now my garden is so easy I just have to watch out that the tiller does not bury itself. Hardest part of tilling is turning around at end of row. Friend had a "box store unit" and hated it, used mine and could not believe the difference. I keep it clean and serviced and it sits there waiting for me and starts up right away. Can't say enough good things about it. It may be called a "Pony" but for me it has been a real workhorse.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small issue I love the way the tiller works, it does wonders in my clay loam. The only issue I have had so far was bad weld penetration on a handle adjustment plate weld. I am sure that Troy-Bilt will take care of the issue, but it is something that detracted from my overall satisfaction rating.
